Background

XXX is a membership fitness club located in a community sports center. Like most fitness clubs, it was open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The club has faced some impacts since the COVID-19 pandemic. First, the decline in membership led to a significant drop in revenue. In addition, members were more concerned about the safety and hygiene of the club’s environment. Third, Some members came to the club near closing time due to shifts or overtime work. It was difficult for them to enjoy the fun of fitness in the limited time before closing. Therefore, members wanted to extend the original openning hours to 24 hours. Another, the club had only the front door to control the access and no barrier stood between the front door and the fitness facility area. It was easy for members to bring their friends to use the fitness facility or share their member cards to others. Finally, physical membership cards were easy to lose, resulting in increased new card issuance costs.

How to create a safe and hygienic environment and to satisfy existing members and attract new members was the primary challenge. Another challenge was how to prevent members from sharing their cards with others. Finally, no staff will be there during 10:00pm to 6:00am when the club opens 24 hours. Therefore, how to create a safe environment is a must.

After the holistic evaluation, the club decided to extend its opening hours to 24 hours without the need for more staff and purchase a new access control system. The card-free and touch-free QR Code-based access control system was recommended for this project. No staff is on duty from 10:00 pm to 6:00am. During that period, therefore, the access from the front door is controlled and members are required to scan the QR code to enter and exit. Additionally, the club increased three access points to enhance the security. A door was installed between the front door and the fitness facility area to control the access and prevent anti-passback and tailgating. The other two access points were set to control the access of man locker room door and woman locker room door to avoid the careless intruding and reducre the belonging lost. Every door requires scanning a QR Code to enter.

Functions

• Authorization setting

The staff can set the member’s authorization according to work out time (day, afternoon, evening, night and all day), controlld area (e.g. Male member only can enter man locker room and is not allowed to enter woman locker room) and valid period of membership (a month, a season, a year and temporary member).

• Generate the QR Code credentials

After submitting the member information, the system will automatically generate the access QR Code and email the access QR Code to the members. When members come club, they scan the access QR Code with QR Code reader to enter the controlled area. The temporary member is required to register on site and QR Code is valid within the limited time.

• Schedule the validity of the QR Code

Set the start/end validity time of the QR Code. When the QR Code expires, the member will no longer have the access authorization to enter the club.

• Record inquiry

The staff can search for the records by date and membert name. The search result can be exported as excel file.

• Anti-passback

Prevents the use of QR Code credential or similar device to enter the area a second time without leaving the area. It prevents the member from giving his QR Code credential to another person to use.

Just like the layout of most swimming pools, after passing through the main passage, locker rooms for men and women are distributed on both sides. It is possible for the members, therefore, may unintentionally enter the wrong area to cause the unnecessary misunderstanding.

The men’s and women’s locker rooms both have the equipments of mechanical key lockers. Sometimes the member forgot to lock the door of locker, leading to theft. Moreover, sometimes the member lost the locker key, or left it in somewhere else. The staff was quite often, therefore, to be asked for open the locker. Visitor management system makes the short-term accommodation managements more cost-effective and easier.

Background

Mr. Wang is an owner of on-line shop and also has 20 rooms for rent via Airbnb. In order to serve the guests and manage the rooms, he hires a full time cleaning lady. The cleaning lady is going to retire soon because of her healthy factor. Managing this short-term accommodation, therefore, becomes more difficult. He has to go out sometimes so he can’t wait for the guests’ comings to give them the keys.
For these reasons, he needs a solution that helps him to give the guests room keys in advance and the keys won’t be able to be used again after they leave. The visitor management system, therefore, is recommended for the room key management. The room keys can be emailed to the guests before they arrive and become invalid after they leave.

Project Requirements

Hardware:
– A device needs to provide the functions that can schedule the guest staying days and email the temporary access QR code to the guests in advance.
– A device is able to read the access QR code to unlock the room door.

Software:
– The client needs software to generate and send out the access QR code to the guests (i.e. room key) in advance.

Function Descriptions

– Generate the room key in advance: After receiving the booking information from Airbnb, the host inputs the guest staying days to generate access QR code and email the access QR code to the guests. The access QR code is effective from check-in day to check-out day. When guests arrive the apartment, they scan the access QR code by PXR-Q1MWS to unlock the door.

– Room key invalidation: The host doesn’t need to take the room key back because this access QR code only can be used during the guest staying days. It will be invalid after the check-out time.

Taipei bus station improves management with Hundure

The Uni-President BOT Bus Station in Taipei has recently adopted access control solutions from Hundure to improve management efficiency and to ensure passenger safety.

The BOT bus station building , developed by Taiwan Uni-President group and Taipei City government, is designed to accommodate business offices on the upper floors and the bus station on the first floor of the building, and the aim is to achieve convenience and save space in the crowded urban environment.

Hundure specialises in new technological developments and system integration design. For the requirements of this project, the Hundure solution includes access control, elevator control and a patrol control system, as well as further integration with the Siemens’s BA system. Access control is used at general door entrances to rooms and offices within the entire building, as well as in the driver’s lounge, cash room and other rooms of the bus company.

One of the benefits of an integrated solution is that lights at the bus station can be controlled plus control of the door locks of doors can be achieved via the Siemens’s BA HMI system. The Siemens’ system uses the OPC server to exchange the data between its BA HMI and the Hundure access control devices. The access control system will perform automatically with the bus time schedule and can feedback the real time status to the BA’s HMI system.

The design solution includes a special access control application that handles the massive passenger numbers passing through the gates. As it is integrated with the bus time schedule, when a bus is scheduled to depart, its on-duty bus driver can swipe his card to open the gate for passengers that have bought tickets for the bus, allowing them to pass through the gate and board the bus. At the same time, the information will be updated and sent back to the main PC at the bus centre. The information includes which driver’s card has been used, when the gate is opened, how many passengers were counted through the gate, and which gate was not closed according to the schedule, and so on. In this way the bus station management can easily supervise and manage the events and logistics of the operation.
